BA Childhood and Youth Studies
Please note the School of Education and Lifelong Learning will not be recruiting any more undergraduate students from 2009. For more information please see the main Undergraduate home page

Are you interested in gaining specialist knowledge about children and young people? This course will give you the opportunity to explore the world of childhood and youth by looking in depth at aspects such as:
- The development of identity throughout childhood and adolescence
- The development of creativity
- Researching children and young people in their places of learning
- Policies and initiatives for children and adolescents
- Childhood in literature, film and art
- Understanding relationships and health
- The home environment, including cultural diversity and community
Active participation is the key approach to learning on this course. You will learn about children's creativity by undertaking creative activities yourself and you will learn about research by observing in a playground and interviewing young people on field visits. In the third year you will be on a work-based placement in a setting of your choice (for example, this could be a school, youth centre, or heritage site) and you will work on your own investigation into children's learning.
