MA Film Studies
For Graduates and Film Professionals
If you have film industry experience or have studied film as part of your first degree, you may be interested in our Masters in Film Studies. The programme, designed by Professor Susan Hayward, is available entirely through distance learning to students across the UK and around the world.
New Students: Set up for WebCT?
Our online courses use a system called WebCT. To check you will be able to access the online courses before signing up, please go to http://webct.ex.ac.uk using the computer you intend to use to access your course (whether this is at home, on a laptop, at work etc...), and click on 'Check Web Browser'. This will show you if there are any obvious issues with the computer, or the way it is set up, which may prevent access to the course online as well as advice on what to do to resolve these issues.
Please note that due to the reliance on online discussion and debate in this postgraduate programme, limited access to the internet (such as having to queue for a limited time-slot in a library) is not considered sufficient for the Film MA.

This ten week module looks at film-star analysis. Each student develops a mini profile of a European film star (who can be working in Hollywood) and discusses their project with other students in the online forum. The student's project then forms the basis for the assessed case-study of their chosen star. For more information see
