Musical treasure baskets
We played with treasure baskets. Each basket held a mixture of musical instruments and home-made soundmakers. Adults sat close by and watched their babies’ choosing from the baskets. As several babies were quite young to sit up, they needed support from a knee or a cushion. Shakers were made from mineral water bottles and small boxes filled with beans, rice or beads. There were also small bells, windchimes and seedpods that rattled.
Baskets were themed, for example one was filled with a collection of wooden materials that rattled or knocked against each other. These included egg cups, spoons, rattles, pods, curtain rings and small shakers and maracas.
