How To Get to St Luke's

The St Luke's campus of the University of Exeter is separate from the main University of Exeter campus, and is located in the eastern side of the city.

By Road: From the east
- Leave the motorway at Junction 30, Sandy Gate. On slip road keep to right hand lane.
- On the roundabout follow signs for Exeter and Middlemoor (4th exit).
- At next roundabout bear left for City Centre and Middlemoor. Follow the road passing under a railway bridge to the next roundabout. Keep to left hand lane. Follow signs for B3183 City Centre (2nd exit).
- From here continue along the road for approximately 2 miles following signs for Heavitree and City Centre.
- Having passed through the shops at Heavitree the road forks at a set of traffic lights. Take the right hand fork and continue straight on at the next traffic lights. As you go down the hill you will see the St Luke’s Campus on the left hand side, opposite the Police Station.
- To park continue down the hill and take the first turning on the right after the Police Station, signposted for Long Stay parking. The Triangle car park is on your left.
By Road: From the west
- Leave the A30 at the Dawlish and Marsh Barton turning. On slip road keep to right hand lane.
- On roundabout take 3rd exit signposted for Exeter and Crediton A377.
- Continue along the road (passing Sainsbury’s on your right) until you pass under a railway bridge and come to the next set of traffic lights by the Riverside Leisure Centre on your left.
- Approaching the next traffic lights (which are very close) move into the middle lane. Join the Exe Bridges Roundabout and get into the left hand lane of the two marked for the City Centre.
- Cross the river and take the junction marked as the Inner Bypass. Stay in the left hand lane until you pass under a footbridge. From here move into the middle lane.
- At the traffic lights go straight ahead, following the signs for the Coach Station.
- Where the road turns sharply left take the turning on the right – Magdalen Road.
- On the corner you will see the Fairpark Car Park. Park here – to get to the St Luke’s Campus walk up Magdalen road to the traffic lights, turn left and walk along College Road to the end. On your right you will see the St Luke’s Campus.
By Rail
Exeter has two mainline railway stations - Exeter St. David's (main station) and Exeter Central. Exeter Central Station is approximately 20 minutes walk from St Luke’s Campus and taxis are available. The average journey time from London Paddington to Exeter is 2 hours 30 minutes.
Exeter St David’s is also served by routes from the Midlands, the South, Wales, the North and Scotland, and rail links between the two Exeter stations are frequent. A taxi from the station will get to St Luke’s Campus in about 5-10 minutes.
A taxi from the station will get to the St Luke's Campus in about 10 minutes. Alternatively, a Stagecoach bus, route N, from the bus stop outside the station will take 15-20 minutes.
By Coach
Leave the Central Coach Station, Exeter and turn left into Paris Street. At the roundabout carry on around into Heavitree Road. The School of Education is up the hill on the right-hand side of Heavitree Road, at the junction with College Road (the third road up on the right hand side after Denmark Road and Spicer Road).
By Bus
There are several Stagecoach services that from the city centre High Street directly to the St Luke's campus and take 10-15 minutes. These are clearly marked in the high street bus stops.
By Air
From arrival at Heathrow Airport
- Train: Take the Heathrow Express to London Paddington and then a train direct to Exeter. The journey takes around three to three and a half hours, allowing for connections, and costs upwards of £70.
- Bus: Take the National Express bus number 501 directly from the Central Bus station to Exeter bus station. These buses run approximately every two hours during the day and cost around £20 – £30 depending on the day of arrival and time of travel. The journey takes around four hours.
- Bus and Train: You can also take a bus to Reading railway station and then take a train from Reading to Exeter. This costs around £55 and takes up to four and a half hours, depending on the time of the train connection.
From arrival at Gatwick Airport
- Bus: Take the National Express coach to Heathrow Central Bus Station and transfer onto the Exeter bus number 501. The journey to Heathrow takes just over an hour and from Heathrow to Exeter about four hours. The ticket from Gatwick to Exeter is just under £30.
- Train: The easiest way to travel from Gatwick to Exeter by train is to take a train from Gatwick to Reading and then change at Reading for a train directly to Exeter. Depending on the connection, the journey should take between three and a half and five hours and should cost between £60 and £70.
From arrival at Bristol Airport
- Bus: Take a bus to central Bristol (which takes about 45 minutes and costs about £5) and then a train directly to Exeter which takes approximately an hour and a half and should cost around £20 - £25.
From arrival at Exeter Airport
If you arrive at Exeter Airport your best option is to get a taxi, ask airport staff for assistance if necessary. A taxi from the airport to the Porters' Lodge at St Luke’s Campus should cost you about £15 - £20.
