Policy Studies
Co-ordinators: William Richardson
This group brings together researchers with an interest in education policy. The main purposes of the group are to:
i) provide a place for intellectual activity within the School for those staff and post-graduate research students whose research is centred on, related to, or is seeking to influence, education policy:
- in the UK and around the world;
- in terms of public policy (national and local government, agencies of government)
- in relation to organisational policy (the institutional behaviour of schools, colleges, companies, curricular/professional interest groups, etc.)
ii) focus this intellectual activity on:
- discussion, critique and production of concepts and methodologies appropriate to policy-related research (including documentary and historical method) and ‘close-to-practice’ research
- a programme of reading / presentations on work influential in the field
iii) provide research training on this theme (developmental activity for staff and initial training for post-graduate research students)
iv) indentify and develop project opportunities (collaboratively within Exeter and/or with other HEIs or policy partners) and contribute tangibly to successful grant applications
