Early Years & Primary
PLEASE NOTE for 2010/11 Entry: We regret that we are no longer able to consider applications from either International or Channel Islands students to the PGCE primary programme as we have reached capacity in terms of school placements and student numbers. We still welcome International and Channel Island applications to the secondary programme'.
As a result of a recent review of training provision carried out in 2008, the Exeter Early Years and Primary programme is now rated as a grade A provider by Ofsted. This makes us one of the top providers in the country for high quality teacher training.
Early Years
The Early Years programme has identical components to the Primary course but focuses on the 3-8 age range.
Primary
Specialist studies is a real advantage when beginning your career as a teacher. The Exeter Primary PGCE programme is unique to other PGCE programmes. Instead of offering a generic Primary programme, we offer specialisms in:
- NEW for 2010/11 - Art
- English
- Humanities
- Mathematics
- Music
- Science
- NEW for 2009/10 - Upper Primary Modern Foreign Languages
These specialisms prepare our trainees to become curriculum coordinators, a distinct advantage as they begin their career in teaching. Applicants therefore need to specify their chosen specialism and entry requires sufficient subject knowledge in that subject area.
Excellent School Placements
School-based work is an important part of the Exeter PGCE and you will be working with 2 schools during the course.
