PGCE Entry Requirements
Entry to the PGCE programme is conditional on:
- Graduate or equivalent status
- The relevance of degree content to the chosen specialist subject(s)
- (current University of Exeter students are allowed to take up to 30 credits outside of their degree programme, some of which may strengthen an application for a PGCE)
- For Secondary applicants - passes at GCSE in English and Mathematics at grade C or above, (or for Secondary Mathematics, Science, Design & Technology, Information Technology, Modern Foreign Languages and Religious Education applicants only, attainment at an appropriate level in the University's special tests).
- For Primary and Early Years applicants - passes at GCSE in English, Mathematics and Science at grade C or above. (Please note that for Primary and Early Years applicants although the TDA requirement is a grade C, we will generally only consider applicants with a grade B or above in Mathematics and English and a grade C in Science)
- Selection based on the information provided on the GTTR application
- Selection based on a successful interview
- A medical report which is deemed satisfactory
- A completed CRB enhanced disclosure which is deemed satisfactory by the University www.exeter.ac.uk/crb
Note: It is the University of Exeter's policy that the level 2 certificate in Adult Literacy or Numeracy is not acceptable as an equivalent to GCSE English/Mathematics.
I had been previously turned down by other PGCE providers that are not as revered as Exeter and never thought I would have been accepted by a PGCE provider like St. Luke's. I sent my form in regardless and they actually read my personal statement and my previous relevant experience, this made me feel genuinely respected as an applicant - I hadn't encountered that before.
