Jobs after Graduating
Please note the School of Education and Lifelong Learning will not be recruiting any more undergraduate students from 2009. For more information please see the main Undergraduate home page
Teaching
Whilst our undergraduate programmes do not give you Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), many of our students choose our degrees because they want to become teachers.
All of our programmes offer outstanding preparation and experience for teaching, which is a strong advantage as places for many PGCE programmes are very competitive. As a student on any of our programmes, Single Honours, Combined Honours or Flexible Combined Honours with Education, you will be well placed to apply for an Early Years or Primary PGCE programme. If you are predicted to achieve at least a 2:1 and have Grade B or above at A level in a National Curriculum or other relevant subject (eg, Psychology, Child Development) you will be guaranteed an interview for our Early Years PGCE programme. To be guaranteed an interview for our Primary PGCE programme you need to be predicted a 2:1 and hold grade B or above at A level in the relevant subject specialism. To apply for either an Early Years or Primary programme you should also have Grade B or above in GCSE Mathematics and English, and Grade C or above in GCSE Science.
In addition, BA English and Education and BSc Sport Sciences and Education students predicted to achieve a 2:1 or better will be guaranteed an interview for our Secondary PGCE programmes in English and PE respectively. Students on our BSc Psychology and Education programme predicted to achieve at least a 2:1 and with grade B or above at A level in the subject specialism will be guaranteed an interview for our Secondary PGCE programmes in English or Mathematics.
