This module is concerned with how educational, arts and cultural policies impact upon the provision and practice of arts education in and out of school; and the formal, informal and nonformal contexts in which learning in the arts takes place. The role and value of arts organisations and artist educators working in partnership with schools and other educational settings will also be explored. Practical workshops, seminars and lectures, and field visits will provide a broad range of opportunities to investigate and interrogate the issues. The assignments will provide you with opportunities to develop your ability to present and debate issues with your peers and to articulate your ideas to policymakers
This module is suitable for specialist or non-specialist students, although non-specialist students must have an active interest in a particular art form and be willing to undertake practical arts-based activity in visual arts, music, dance and drama.
