Dr Katherine Gulliver (she/her)
Postdoctoral Research Associate
School of Education
An experienced Researcher and Lecturer in Education, my areas of interest are in the areas of inclusion, developmental disabilities, primary schools and conducting ethically sensitive research with children with disabilities. My doctorate investigated the experiences of children with Williams Syndrome attending mainstream primary schools, which highlighted the range of support and pedagogies used across schools. Teaching assistants play a significant role in supporting children and staff, by developing knowledge of both the child and the disability through close, responsive working with children. The study also raises important questions around creating opportunities for children with developmental disabilities to build self-advocacy skills.
I am particularly interested in:
- Inclusive education
- Children's experiences
- Developmental disabilities
- Additional Learning Needs
- School belonging
- Mainstream primary schools
- Special schools
- Teaching Assistants
- School support for inclusion
- Participatory methods
