Meiqi Li
Postgraduate Researcher
School of Education
After obtaining my Master's degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) in China, I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the School of Education, University of Exeter. My PhD research explores the family language policies (FLP) of Chinese immigrant families living in Exeter and its surrounding areas in the UK, as well as the social, economic, educational, and personal factors that shape these FLPs. Ultimately, it aims to investigate how different family language policies influence the language and cognitive development of children in these families.
Research Interests:
My research project is supervised by Dr. Gabriela Meier and Dr. Katie Howard. My research interests lie in applied linguistics, second language acquisition (SLA), family language policy (FLP), language education, bilingualism, multilingualism, cognition, and cross-cultural studies. I am keen to connect with fellow scholars engaged in similar research for potential collaborations.
Teaching Activities:
As a Postgraduate Teaching Associate (PTA) in UoE, I support the delivery of the MA modules EFPM914 Education Studies, EFPM906 Arts Education, and EFPM907 Creativity. I also assist in supervising MA Education dissertations for EFPM308. Additionally, I serve as a peer mentor in the Global Chums programme.
Previously at BLCU, I taught English listening, reading, and speaking at the Continuing Education College, as well as Chinese to foreign students at the School of Online Education.
