Nicola Galloway is Professor of Applied Linguistics in The School of Education and Director for Global Engagement (Incoming). She specialises in sociolinguistics and language teaching research. Her interests are in the pedagogical implications of the use of English as a global lingua franca and the internationalisation of higher education, with a particular focus on Global Englishes, English-Medium Instruction (EMI) and transnational higher education (TNE) in non-Anglophone contexts. Her work straddles applied linguistics and higher education studies. She is the founder and Director of the ELIPro Network (https://elipro.net), an international research network connecting scholars working on language, education, multilingualism and internationalisation.
Nicola started her teaching career in Japanese schools before completing an MSc in TESOL in 2005. She then moved into teaching in higher education, while completing a PhD in Modern Languages from The University of Southampton. The focus of her PhD was on language attitudes in relation to the globalisation of English.
