I have worked in public primary and lower secondary schools as a teacher in Japan (1997-2009). And then I have worked in Nara University of Education (2009-present). I currently teach courses in mathematics education in primary and secondary education, masters' degree in mathematics education. In the last 10 years, I have been researching pupils’ (mainly in primary and lower secondary schools) mathematical thinking, understanding and reasoning (mainly geometry and mathematical proofs). I am a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Japan Society of Mathematical Education, the largest academic society on mathematics education in Japan with about 2,300 members (2015-present). From 2017 to 2021, I developed the mathematics curriculum and syllabus for a project to establish two teacher education colleges in Cambodia (Phnom Penh and Battambang).
