Shaping policy on the teaching of grammar and writing
A decade of research into the development of writing in school-aged children led by Professor Debra Myhill has shaped national and international policy, improved children's writing abilities and changed classroom practice.
The research has been celebrated by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) who have awarded the Centre for Research in Writing (as our Centre was previously named) with the ESRC Celebrating Impact Prize for outstanding impact in society.
The Grammar of Writing Pedagogy
Professor Debra Myhill talks about the research her team have carried out into contextualised grammar teaching, including the findings of a three-year study and subsequent pedagogy they developed called Grammar for Writing, which has proven to almost double the rate of writing progress in KS3 English. Debra also talks about her work with Pearson Education on Skills for Writing.
