Proficient writing is foundational for academic success, employability and social engagement, yet many children still struggle to meet national standards in writing. We have developed and refined an innovative teaching approach that links grammar to the crafting of meaning in writing, as well as demonstrating that this can improve students’ attainment. This has had an international impact on pedagogic understanding and practices among teachers and organisations producing teaching materials.

Religious education teachers often lack confidence in negotiating the diverse disciplinary and methodological lenses through which religion(s) and worldview(s) can be explored. Our work developed new metacognitive and inquiry-led approaches including the ‘RE-searchers’ model that encourages a plurality of perspectives through practical, participative and interactive methods. These approaches have been integrated into curricula and adopted by teachers in the UK, Norway and Finland.
